Welcome

The Tale of Svaha and Agni

Once upon a time, in the realm of the gods, there lived a beautiful maiden named Svaha, the daughter of the mighty Daksha. Svaha's heart burned with a passionate love for Agni, the god of fire, whose radiant presence illuminated the celestial abode.

Agni, however, was consumed by guilt and shame. He had fallen prey to his own desires, longing for the wives of the Saptarishis, the seven great sages. Tormented by his actions, Agni retreated to the forests, seeking solace in penance and atonement.

Svaha, undeterred by the obstacles that stood in her way, devised a cunning plan. She would take on the forms of the Saptarishis' wives, one by one, and seduce Agni in their guise. And so, with her shapeshifting powers, Svaha approached Agni, disguised as each of the wives, and conceived a child from their union.

Six times, Svaha transformed herself, and six times, she deposited the seed of their love into a golden pot hidden in the Reed forest. But there was one wife whose form Svaha could not assume – Arundhati, the consort of Sage Vashishtha, whose purity and power were unmatched.

As Agni's guilt and shame mounted, he faced the consequences of his actions. But in the end, he was reassured that his fate had been sealed by the gods themselves. For from this divine union between Svaha and Agni, a son was born – Skanda, the mighty god of war, destined to lead the celestial armies against the forces of evil.

And so, the tale of Svaha and Agni stands as a testament to the power of love, the complexities of desire, and the intricate tapestry of destiny that weaves through the lives of gods and mortals alike. Their story, filled with passion, sacrifice, and the birth of a new divine champion, continues to captivate and inspire those who seek to understand the mysteries of the universe.
